Writer's conferences

If you write, and if you are even semi-serious about writing as a career, at some point, you should attend a writer's conference (or two or three). I've attended a few over the years, and I've always wanted to attend the one sponsored by the American Society of Journalists and Authors because some say it's the best one out there. It is always held in New York City, which is how they are able to get a very large number of publishing professionals -- agents, editors, etc -- to attend. And I'm excited that I will be attending this April, not just as an attendee but as a speaker. I'm moderating a panel on "How to Negotiate Your Own Book Deal," which is geared towards people who don't have an agent.

So far, I only have one other person on the panel, but it's a publishing lawyer, so that's a good start! I'm hoping to add another author and/or agent to the mix, so if that might be you, please get in touch! And if you're a writer at any stage of your career, consider attending!
